IAF - Imperial Anihalation Force (Hosted by L0D)

HIGHLIGHTS:
Really only 3 teams were considered contenders here, with 3 more looking to make their move up. >ID>, ^MoH^ and np49 were the contenders with L0D, OTH and MAGI looking in. From the start the 3 contenders proved their might and it carried into the playoffs. The Championship match proved to be a good one, after >ID> and ^MoH^ breezed through the playoffs to make the championship. On the way there though, the tournament admin switched up the pairings just before the final, which caused quite the uproar. In the end though, the top 2 teams made the Championship with >ID> squeaking by in the best of 5 maps.

SETTINGS: FT 1.2 (I think), Lag comp (na), All weapons at startup, 5 maps (Overkill, pro-dm6, ???), 10 Point map limit, Friendly Fire OFF

ISSUES: Granted it was the first tournament ran by IAF and the rules were not stated clearly from the begining. There were some changes mid season that lead to some serious bitching and some very upset clans. ^MoH^ felt most of the heat in this tournament as many of the changes 'seemed' to be directed at them. There was the unfounded "Havok" wall hack issue as well.

SURPRISES: L0D emerged as a suprize team here, as it was their first tournament in Freeze Tag after coming from the Dreamcast servers. ^MoH^ was also a suprize here as they too came from Dreamcast servers and not many expected them to seriously compete, but after week 2 it was clear they were prepared.

LIC 1 - Legion Of Doom Invitational Cup (Hosted by L0D)

HIGHLIGHTS: The first tournament ran by the L0D| clan and the first tournament to include the new Lag compensation settings for Ultra Freeze Tag. Was also the oddest of tournaments, as it incorporated a 2 map agregate scoring system. LIC1 also brought back the 20 minute, no point limit, map settings. LIC1 used a uniform server config and included permanent tourney referees that were assigned to certain matches. Many expected ^MoH^, >ID>, np49, 6th and L0D| to compete for the championship here.. and all of those teams but ^MoH^ made the playoffs. The tournament was set up with 4 groups of randomly picked teams. Each group had 4 teams in it and you only played those teams. ^MoH^ was stacked in the toughest group with suprize team IAF and contender L0D|, losing by 1 point in their last match with L0D| to be eliminated from the playoffs. 6th looked very strong in their group with OTH and finished undefeated and in 3rd overall. Newcomers e3 and KI were both paired in the group with >ID> and after 2 losses KI dropped from the tournament..giving way for a strong e3 to advance. The playoffs proved to be very entertaining with a few suprizes. IAF went out after a first round loss to e3 and L0D eliminated a favored 6th clan to advance to the semifinal and most exciting match with >ID>. np49, had no problem getting to the championship and then winning it all in a great final with >ID>.

SETTINGS: Lag Comp ON, Friendly Fire OFF, 20 minute no point limit maps, 4 maps total (cmp4, cpm9, dm14tmp, dm6), all weapons at startup. 6 matches for each team.

ISSUES: Another 1st tournament here and some issues with rules stated clearly. The night of the group drawings was hendered by an ETG split, but was finished only 45 minutes after the scheduled time. The first night of matches also had a huge ETG netsplit, with all but 2 matches played. A few referees were cited for some serious mistakes and some abuses, including the infamous "my cat restarted the map" issue. The final also had an issue when the server bunked out mid game....lol.

SURPRISES: IAF came from no where to contend when they picked up a defunct GeM team. After an early beating to L0D, they returned the favor to win their group. e3 was also a suprize here, defeating a confident but overmatched KI to advance to the playoffs. KI was also a suprize, but in a different way, as they were expected to do very well.. only to drop out after 3 weeks.

AZFL - (Absolute Zero Freeze Tag League) (Hosted by OTH|)

HIGHLIGHTS: 2 Divisions highlighted this Tournament with several new teams making their debut. CB4 was among one of the new teams and was made up of current cloudnine players. Before the season started CB4 leader esseff, promised a championship for the OSP gods. When it came to the playoffs they assured us all that they would 'care' ..but by then it was too late. GeM and 49 were poised to make their runs. 49 was favored by most with GeM's roster and teamplay a close 2nd, however when they met in the championship it was all GeM. 49 looked and played as if they did not care, but regardless GeM played very well and deserved the Championship. In the casual division there was a clear favorite. 6th Sense entered a very skilled team into the casual division and there was no one close to compete with. 6th playing in the casual division became a huge issue with many teams. After a breeze in the regular season they went on to easily advance to the casual championship with a suprize TLK team. Teddm1 proved to be a staple map in the community after AZFL.

SETTINGS: Competitive and Casual Divisions, Lag comp ON, Friendly Fire OFF, 20 minute timelimit - no point limit maps, best of 3 maps, maps (teddm1, cpm4, pro-dm6, dm7, dm14), 21 teams

ISSUES: 3 issues stand out here.. 1. A referee gets caught cheating, 2. 6th Sense enters the casual Division, 3. 3 teams drop out early. The rules were stated very clearly and minus a lack of referees, the tournament went pretty smooth.

SURPRISES: 6th Sense winning the Casual Divison was not a suprize, but TLK advancing to the casual division championship against them was. cb4 and fs getting rocked in the playoffs was also a surprise.

LIC2 - (Legion Of Doom Invitational Cup) (Hosted by L0D)

HIGHLIGHTS: 3 Divisions and a new map highlighted this tournament and for the first time since the IAF Tournament there would be offered a Lag Comp OFF Division. At first 8 teams looked to sign up for the Lag Comp OFF, Friendly Fire ON Division, but in the end only 6 teams were fielded. Of those 6 teams it looked as 5 would compete for the championship but it turned out to be a 4 way race.. as chk. failed to have a stable skilled team. 49 was the early favorite and an undefeated regular season showed that. L0D, who only lost 1 map behind Barnak, sChizm and company were the other favorite, but in the end it would be 3rd and 4th place finishers OTH| and D|S that would advance to the championship. OTH avenged an earlier close loss to 49 and D|S avenged a thumping to L0D. The Championship was never played as the 'OPEN' division was a bit unorganized and lasted much longer then it should have. The nod for the Champions was given to OTH| as they made more efforts in the end to play the match.

In the 'Competitive' division which offered some 'OPEN Division' skill and teamwork there were 3 clear favorites. 6th Sense, cM* and ctrl all looked to be clear favorites.. with DFA, L0D and dh looking just from the outside. ctrl would not make it past week 1 as they were found to be in clear violations of the rules and were removed from the tournament. 6th and cM* easily won their groups along with dh and L0D. DFA was pitted against a very good [B] team and after some last match issues were awarded a spot in the playoffs. L0D went 6-0 easily winning their group, including a 95-0 win over newcomer DEA. cM* and 6th easily breezed through the playoffs to meet in one of the most exciting Championships UFT has ever had. The best of 3 championship was decided by a total of 2 points, with cM* winning both maps by 1 point!!.

In the 'Casual' Division there were 2 favorites, DLC and [B]2.. with both making the semifinals. DLC took an early exit as a much improved L0D|3 team defeated them 2-1. The [B] clan easliy breezed by SS* to meet up with a L0D team they easily defeated twice before in their group. The match was a bit sloppy, but more intense then most thought, and in the end L0D would avenge their 2 earlier losses to defeat [B] and win the Casual Championship by 2 points total!.

Overall LIC2 was a bit hectic at times with so many teams competing. The new AZFL "Community Organizer" was being rolled out and LIC2 was the first tournament to fly the AZFL banner. Some easy rules were questioned throughout and teams had a much harder time setting up matches then they should have. The 'Casual' divison, once again, proved to be the most professional of the divisions and the most competitive with almost every match being played and no issues whatsoever. OSPDM6 was introduced and proved to be a railers delight. UFT Build 54 was rolled out with some very cool coaching features and teamnames finally. Oh, the polo map! This map although a nice map, was not meant to be played as is in UFT. Players either loved it (few) or hated it (many) and in the end it would not be used again in UFT. After all the whining, the Lag Comp OFF, Friendly Fire on settings proved to be satisfactory.

SETTINGS: Lag Comp OFF/ON, Friendly Fire ON, 20 minute-no point limit maps, 2 map aggregate scoring, 3 Divisions with group play, 6 maps (ospdm5, ospdm6, dm7, dm14tmp, 6++ and polo3dm5), 34 teams.

ISSUES: The entire clan ctrl thing was a huge issue as LIC2 admins spent hours with this issue to find the team clearing attempting to use players that were not on their rosters. The 'Open Division' was very unorganized with about 75% of the blame on the teams themselves. The polo map was an issue and the lack of clearly stated "retard proof" rules became an issue.

SURPRISES: The 'Open Division' Championship was a big surprise after 49 and L0D breezed through the regular season only to find themselves looking in on the championship to OTH| and D|S. Both SS* teams making the playoffs with strong showings in their group play was also a surprise and finally L0D|3 winning the 'Casual Division' Championship over a team that twice owned them in group play was a huge surprise.

UFC - (Ultra Freeze Cup) (Hosted by AZFL)

HIGHLIGHTS: Originally the UFC was setup to fill the void of a late coming AZFL 2 and was meant to include only 8 of the more active and longer standing UFT Clans.. but it turned out to be huge tournament with 20 teams competing in 1 division that would be split into 2 flights to determine the 16 playoff positions. Due to the increase in teams entered and the time frame in which it was played, some rules were not covered early enough to prevent a lot of whining from several teams. The UFC was the first ALL lag comp OFF Tournament since the IAF Tournament and used the latest build of UFT, which included 2 new nudges designed to help those with high pings. Compared to past tournaments, the UFC proved to be the most competitive from top to bottom. Prior to the start of the tournament, all 20 teams were ranked to determine an early schedule and playoff structure. The system was set up to award those clans that defeated teams ranked above them in attempts to move up in the rankings. cM* was an early favorite to compete for the championship with 6th, GeM and c9 poised to battle. Having teams scheduled against other teams with similar skill made for some early competitive battles.

c9 vs. cM* started off the tournament, but was nothing as it should be .. cM* was plagued with serious lag issues and were not able to field 3 of it's starters, giving way for c9 to easily defeat the favorites. The first week also included a FF loss by L0D to 6th after the first map and some controversy. 2K dropped out before they even played a match ..stating that they were not ready to compete with the big boys and would not accept playing teams like SS* or TLK. Another team poised to make a run was cbx., who started strong, before being removed from the tournament for excessive BS. After week 1 there was plenty of drama as several teams made runs for the top flight, including DFA and TLK][.

Flight 2, once again, proved to be the more competitive and professional, completing all but 1 match. Surprise team |pq| started very strong and looked to be a contender in Flight 2, only to be knocked back in the last 3 weeks and lose badly in the first round of the playoffs. X^hale, who started with 3 losses and dropped all the way to 17th at one point climbed back up with 3 straight wins in the end to make the playoffs. Both SS* teams made the playoffs and were even pitted against eachother in mid season for a very intersting match. c9 continued to run the tables, losing only 1 map to 6th Sense. 6th looked to be the easy favorite for a championship run with their only losses coming to c9. After every team had played 6 matches, the playoffs would start and the Flight 2 teams were ready to go with a very strong Clan 311 looking to avenge an earlier loss to chk, who did not make the Flight 1 playoffs because of a last week FF loss. Both DFA and TLK climbed to Flight 1 after impressive early wins and continued success. Once the playoffs started, [B] decided to drop to make a point about one of their players being banned from UFC for having OGC in their config, giving c9 the bye week. TLK][ got a FF win over cM*, who also decided not to show up for the playoffs. L0D|, who struggled to even show up for matches defeated a very strong GeM team to advance to the semifinals. 6th easily disposed of DFA which would lead to another semifinal tournament match between L0D| and 6th. TLK][ suprised everyone by winning the first map against c9 in the semifinals and L0D|, once again, defeated 6th when it mattered to advance to the Championship.

c9 showed their strength and teamwork in the Finals and moved on to defeat L0D| 2-0 in 2 very good matches. In Flight 2, 311 easily advanced to the semifinals where they would meet a L0D|sp00n team they beat badly earlier. 311 did it again and would meet chk., who beat up on both SS* teams to make the finals. 311 would not let chk steal their thunder and avenged their earlier loss to win the Flight 2 Championship 2-0.

SETTINGS: Lag Comp OFF, Friendly Fire ON, 20 minute-no point limit maps, 3 maps each match (2 points for a win, 1 point for completing each map), 1 Division split into 2 Flights at the end, 3 maps (ospdm5, ospdm6, dm14tmp), 20 teams.

ISSUES: cbx, 2K and [B]. cbx made for many headaches, 2K threw everything off with a 1st week drop out and [B] finished it off with a last week drop out. The whole "c9" is hacking us issue from cM* and the L0D| vs. 6th controversy. Coalshaft and ALIEN being accused of editing logs and the top teams whining about almost everything. A lack of complete understanding of the rankings and some unclear rules regarding OGC in your config.

SURPRISES: |pq| early, X^hale late, and L0D| winning their 2 playoff matches to make the Championship were among many surprises. TLK][ and DFA both owning with excellent teamwork and cM* giving up after impressive matches with their non-starters.

LIC XXX - (Legion Of Doom Invitational Cup) (Hosted by L0D) - May 05

HIGHLIGHTS: As the Quake community neared the release of QUAKE4, the UFT community began to thin out a bit and it showed as we began the 3rd LIC tournament. The community managed to pull 20 teams into the tournament though, with 16 in the main division and 4 in a lower division. As always with the LIC Tournaments, the Random Drawing for seeds was one of the more exciting aspects of the tournament. LIC XXX proved to be the most one sided when it came to the draw. Three of the top 5 teams were grouped together in one group. TLK][ (the OGL Champions), legion|1 (All time most successful UFT team) and DFM1 (KGB's powerhouse lineup) were all grouped in Group A. This meant that only 2 of 4 in that group (PIE was the 4th team) would advance to the playoffs.
